[FINNBAY] 15.05.2013. Turkey’s TRT, the official (national) television channel, cancelled showing semi and finals of the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 over alleged fears of Finnish Eurovision candidate Krista Siegrfrids’ promised lesbian kiss on stage.
TRT is the only channel who has the right to show the Eurovision Song Contest in Turkey.
Previously, the Turkish government decided not to take part in the 58th Eurovision Song Contest 2013 due to their protest of the current voting format where juries have 50% stake and audience another.
They also think that it is unfair that the “privileged” Big5 countries get direct tickets to the final without competing in semi-finals.
Though, TRT promised to show the contest.
Finland’s Eurovision candidate, Krista Siegfrids, is expected to kiss one of her female dancers on stage during her performances at the Eurovision Song Contest in semi and finals.
Krista’s motivation is believed to be a protest of the current same-sex marriage laws in Finland as well as to create a big voting block for her performance to win the competition.
Due to increased reports in Turkish media of Krista Siegfrids’ kissing a woman in rehearsals, warm-up gigs, and her plan to engage in the same activity during semi and finals, gay activists in Turkey are claiming that this is what made TRT to cancel showing the Eurovision song contest in Turkey.
TRT did not comment on the issue but claimed that the “ratings will be too low” to warrant showing the competition.
This news was first broken by Finnbay in Finland.
Update, 18 May 2013, 22:30: Krista kissed her stage dancer at the ESC as expected.
