Footballers make a lot of money and they love to show everyone just how much, because the more money they have to blow on crap, the more important they must be.
William Gallas splashed the cash on a chrome Mercedes Mclaren and El Hadji Diouf’s gold-plated Cadillac Escalade was cute.
Jermaine Pennant’s €252k chrome Aston Martin was certainly an ostentatious display of wealth, but if you’re going to fly about in a status symbol, then nothing says how rich and important you are than one of these painfully expensive cars which you’ve probably never even heard of…
11. SSC Ultimate Aero – €550k
Built in the US and maxing out at 256 mph, this 1287 horsepower monster was once the fastest production car on earth and only five have been produced since 2007.
As the cheapest entry in this list, there are some footballers who could actually afford this on two weeks’, such as Wayne Rooney or Yaya Toure.
10. McLaren P1 – €818k
Going from 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, the P1’s twin-turbo 3.8 litre V8 engine is one of the most powerful out there and what’s more, it’s built in England.
Built largely out of carbon fibre, this bad boy incorporates a lot of Formula 1 technology and is sure to turn some heads…at the speed limit of course.
9. Hennessey Venom GT – €893k
Coming in at a cool €893k, you probably have no idea what this car is and that’s ok.
Hennessey are a Texas based sports car manufacturer. The Venom GT was inspired by the Lotus Elise and has a top speed of 270 mph, going from 0-60 in 2.7 seconds. Only 11 have been produced to date.
The Venom GT also made its way into the Guinness Book of Records for reaching 186 mph in 13.63 seconds.
7. Pagani Huayra – €1,116m
Another obscure manufacturer, the Huayra is built by Italian company Pagani, based in Modena.
Named “Hypercar of the Year 2012” by Top Gear Magazine, this car is made to order and for those under the spotlight, there are few cars more exclusive.
Maxing out at 230mph and reaching 60 in 3.3 seconds, this powerhouse really deserves its name which translates as “God of the winds”.
6. Koenigsegg Agera R – €1,190m
The Agera R is made by Swedish company Koenigsegg. Laughing around the track with a 1140 horsepower engine, this monster can reach 60 mph in 2.8 seconds and will max out at around 273 mph.
It was named “Hypercar of the Year” in 2010 by Top Gear Magazine.
5. Aston Martin One-77 – €1,339m
A more readily recognisable name thanks to the James Bond series, there is nothing more classy than an Aston Martin and so it is arguably less suitable for a footballer.
Nonetheless, there are only 77 of these beautiful machines and whilst it’s fast, the One-77 is a more all encompassing experience. Definitely the best looking entry on this list.
4. Koenigsegg CCXR – €1,642m
Another product of Swedish company Koenigsegg, the CCXR comes in at almost €500k more than it’s younger brother.
In March 2009 the CCXR was chosen by Forbes as one of the ten most beautiful cars in history and it’s easy to see why.
Sporting a 1018 horsepower engine, the CCXR can handle whatever surface you throw at it and is a worthy addition to any collection.
3. Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse – €1,857m
The Bugatti Veyron is known all over the world and it is the fastest road car ever built.
You will have to pay for the privilege, but it hits 62mph in 2.6 seconds. Less than 40 are made a year and even a professional footballer would take a hit when buying one of these.
2. Lykan Hypersport – €2,526m
Believe it or not, the Lykan Hypersport is produced by a Lebanese manufacturer, W Motors, and is the first supercar to be produced in the Middle East.
Not only can it hit 60 mph in 2.8 seconds, but it is also a luxurious way to get around thanks to the jewels built in to the interior and a holographic display.
It is the third most expensive car in the world…
1. Maybach Exelero – €5.937m
We arrive finally at the most expensive car in the world, one which looks straight out of a gangster movie set in the future.
At nearly €6m and with only 23 in existence, you’d expect to be getting a lot for your money and the Exelero certainly delivers.
It is a 4-seater with 700 bph, maxing out at 218 mph and reaches 60 in 4.4 seconds.
Put simply, it is the pinnacle of automobile luxury.
