Finnish Police Apologized and Gave New Flagpoles to the Left Alliance

(FINNBAY) – Turku, 10 May 2014. Left Alliance got brand new flagpoles as compensation for the ones that were broken by Finnish police during the May-day boycott in Helsinki.

Helsinki Police Department has received high criticisms due to their “violent” approach in dealing with the demonstrators on 1 May 2014.

Police confiscated and broke some flagpoles which belong to Left Alliance. Police said that they considered the items to be used as weapons. Helsinki Police later on apologized for the confiscated flagpoles saying that the demonstrators had nothing to do with anarchism.

On Wednesday, the police gave new flagpoles to Left Alliance as replacement for the ones they broke and confiscated. However, the Left Alliance considers the matter to be unresolved since the investigation into the boycott did not reveal much about police’s behaviour.
