(FINNBAY) – Helsinki, 12 June 2014. Finland’s passenger, logistics and train operator firm, VR, is heading towards investing more on online shopping. The first move of expansion is to add a hotel-booking feature to its webpage.
On Tuesday, VR announced that its online service www.vr.fi is becoming increasingly popular and more and more passengers are buying their train tickets online or using VR Mobile. More than two million customers use their online services each month.
VR’s mobile ticketing service was introduced a year ago, and has also steadily increased in popularity. More than 200,000 VR Mobile applications have already been downloaded to smartphones. The use of digital services has increased by more 15 per cent from 2013.
“VR provides its customers with more ticket-purchasing channels than any other passenger services operator. We want to continuously improve our services and we are developing our sales channels in accordance with customers’ expectations. More than 65 per cent of all tickets are bought using our self-service channels,” says Antti Tiitola, Senior Vice President of VR’s Passenger Services.
Due to its success over online purchases, VR is now preparing to add a hotel booking service to its online shopping website. When buying train tickets passengers will be offered to book a hotel room.
The company will also offer hotel booking in international destinations like in St. Petersburg.
The company did not announce the exact date for the launch of their hotel-booking feature.
